Freestanding Water Coolers & Floor Standing Water Dispensers
A freestanding water cooler holds more water than a benchtop unit, keeps your benches completely clear, and stands ready wherever you put it — kitchen corner, hallway, break room, workshop. Every floor standing water dispenser in our range delivers chilled water between 4–10°C, with hot and cold configurations available at 84–89°C, and all of them carry a 36-month warranty.
You have two routes: a bottled cooler that needs nothing but a power point, or a plumbed-in bottleless cooler that connects to your mains and never needs refilling. Both are below.

How to Choose a Floor Standing Water Dispenser
1. Bottled or plumbed-in? Decide this first
It changes everything else. A bottled freestanding cooler is gravity-fed from a bottle on top — no plumbing, no installer, position it anywhere with a power point, and refill or swap the bottle when it empties. A plumbed-in bottleless cooler connects to your cold water line and never needs refilling, which suits higher demand and anyone tired of lifting 15 kg bottles.
The trade-off is installation. Our bottleless units must be fitted by a qualified professional in line with local plumbing regulations, and a Pressure Limiting Valve is required to keep the 36-month warranty valid. Factor that into the cost before you choose. You can also convert some bottled units later with a bottled cooler conversion kit, and there are more mains-connected options in our plumbed-in water coolers range.
2. Work out your daily volume
Cold tank capacity is the specification that matters day to day, because it sets how much chilled water is ready at once and how fast the cooler recovers. 2.6 L suits a household or a few people. 3.3–3.6 L handles a family or a small team without anyone waiting — the bottleless models deliver around 22 cups an hour chilled and 15 cups an hour hot.
3. Hot and cold, or cold only?
Hot and cold models hold water at 84–89°C, hot enough for tea, coffee and instant meals, so the cooler replaces your kettle too. Cool and cold models cost less to buy and less to run. If nobody drinks hot drinks, save the money.
4. Do you want filtration as well?
If you are after a free standing water filter and dispenser in one, you have two paths. On bottled models, refillable bottles and 8-stage KDF filters are available as add-ons — you fill from the tap through the filter instead of buying delivered water, which is usually cheaper over the life of the cooler. The bottleless models take PNP swing-and-twist cartridges in single, twin or triple configurations, changeable without tools or isolating the mains. Browse our water filter systems and filtered refillable bottles.
5. Where will it stand?
Allow clearance behind the unit for airflow — the refrigeration system needs it, and boxing a cooler into a tight alcove makes it work harder. Out of direct sunlight runs more efficiently. For a plumbed-in unit, it also needs to be within reach of a cold water connection.
6. What will it cost to run?
These units draw 0.8–1.2 amps on a standard 220 v supply, and a hot dispenser usually works out cheaper per cup than boiling a full kettle for one drink. We go through the real numbers in our guide to water cooler electricity consumption.
Tight on floor space? A benchtop unit sits on the counter and takes up about as much room as a kettle. Compare the two side by side in our benchtop water coolers collection, which has a full benchtop-versus-freestanding breakdown.
Keeping a Freestanding Cooler Clean
A floor standing dispenser needs a wipe of the drip tray, a sanitise of the tank every few months, and a filter change if yours is fitted with one. Our guides on cleaning a freestanding water dispenser and keeping a cold water dispenser sterile walk through both, and replacement cartridges are always in stock.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a freestanding water cooler?
A freestanding or floor standing water cooler is a full-height unit that stands on the floor rather than sitting on a bench. It holds a larger chilled water tank than a benchtop model — 2.6 to 3.6 litres across our range — and keeps your bench space completely clear. Most are gravity-fed from a bottle on top, and plumbed-in bottleless versions are also available.
How cold does the water get, and how hot?
Chilled water dispenses between 4 and 10°C. On hot and cold models, the hot tank holds water at 84 to 89°C, hot enough for tea, coffee and instant meals. Hot models include an NSF-approved safety lock on the hot tap.
Do freestanding water coolers need plumbing?
The bottled models do not — they are gravity-fed and need only a power point, so you can position them anywhere. The bottleless models do: they connect to your cold water line, must be installed by a qualified professional in line with local plumbing regulations, and need a Pressure Limiting Valve fitted to keep the warranty valid.
Which is better, a freestanding or a benchtop water cooler?
Freestanding suits you if you have the floor space, want a larger chilled tank and would rather keep benches clear. Benchtop suits tight kitchens and smaller households, and costs less. There is a full side-by-side comparison in our benchtop water coolers collection.
How do I clean a freestanding water dispenser?
Wipe the drip tray and taps regularly, and sanitise the tank every few months — more often in warm weather or heavy use. Our guide to cleaning a freestanding water dispenser covers the full process step by step.
Can I add a filter and refill it myself instead of buying bottled water?
Yes. On bottled models, refillable bottles and 8-stage KDF filters are available as add-ons, so you can fill from the tap through the filter rather than paying for delivered water — usually the cheaper option over the life of the cooler. Bottleless models filter the mains supply directly through PNP cartridges.
How often should I change the filter?
Most cartridges need replacing every 2 to 6 months depending on your water quality and how much you use, with some systems running up to 12 months. Our guide on how often to change a water filter covers the signs to watch for.
What warranty do these coolers come with?
All models carry a 36-month comprehensive warranty covering parts and labour. Two conditions worth knowing: on plumbed-in bottleless units a Pressure Limiting Valve must be fitted, and on any model, installing a reverse osmosis system or an incompatible filtration setup will void it. Check compatibility with us before adding third-party filtration.
How much electricity does a freestanding water cooler use?
These units draw 0.8 to 1.2 amps on a standard 220 v supply. A hot and cold dispenser typically costs less per cup than boiling a full kettle for a single drink. Our guide to water cooler electricity consumption has the figures.
