Filter Compatibility & Sizing Guide

Water Filter Compatibility & Sizing Guide

Choosing the correct replacement filter cartridge is essential for maintaining water quality and protecting your filtration system. This guide helps you identify the right cartridge for your Ace Water Shop system by type, size, and application.

If you can't find your system below, contact our team with your system model and we'll identify the correct cartridge for you. You can also browse our full replacement filter cartridge range.

How to Identify Your Filter Cartridge

Before ordering a replacement, check the following on your existing cartridge or system manual:

  • Cartridge dimensions — standard sizes are 10" x 2.5", 10" x 4.5" (Big Blue), and 20" x 4.5"
  • Filter type — ceramic, carbon block, KDF, sediment, RO membrane, fluoride reduction
  • Micron rating — the pore size that determines what particles are filtered out (lower = finer filtration)
  • System model — found on the housing label or in your original documentation

Benchtop & Counter Water Filter Cartridges

Our benchtop systems use gravity-fed ceramic dome filters and multi-stage cartridge combinations. Browse our benchtop water filter range and benchtop replacement cartridges.

Whole House Filter Cartridges

Whole house systems use standard Big Blue housings (10" x 4.5" or 20" x 4.5"). Browse our whole house filter systems and whole house replacement cartridges.

Compatible Cartridges for Ace Whole House Systems

System Housing Size Cartridge Type Replacement Interval
Ace Single Stage Whole House Filter 10" 10" x 4.5" Big Blue Sediment or carbon block 3–6 months
Ace Twin Whole House Filter 10" x 4.5" 10" x 4.5" Big Blue (x2) Stage 1: Sediment — Stage 2: Carbon block 3–6 months

Tip: Always replace both cartridges in a twin system at the same time to maintain consistent filtration performance.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) Cartridges

RO systems use a series of pre-filters, an RO membrane, and post-filters. Browse our reverse osmosis systems and RO replacement cartridges.

Typical RO Cartridge Replacement Schedule

Stage Cartridge Type Replacement Interval
Stage 1 Sediment pre-filter (5 micron) 6–12 months
Stage 2 Carbon block pre-filter 6–12 months
Stage 3 RO membrane 2–3 years
Stage 4 Post carbon (polishing) filter 12 months

For re-mineralisation after RO filtration, add a Maifan Stone or Magnesium Prill Beads stage to restore beneficial minerals.

Undersink Filter Cartridges

Our undersink filter systems use standard 10" x 2.5" cartridges. Replacement intervals are typically every 6–12 months depending on water quality and usage volume.

Water Distiller Maintenance

Our water distillers do not use replaceable filter cartridges in the traditional sense, but do require:

  • Regular cleaning of the boiling chamber to remove mineral scale (use a food-safe descaler or white vinegar)
  • Carbon post-filter sachets — replace every 1–2 months. Use our Activated Carbon Filter Sachets to remove any residual volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the distilled water

Shower Filter Cartridges

Browse our shower filter range. Shower filter cartridges typically require replacement every 6 months or after approximately 10,000 litres of water, whichever comes first.

Cartridge Sizing Reference

Size Name Dimensions Common Application
Standard 10" 10" x 2.5" Undersink, benchtop inline systems
Big Blue 10" 10" x 4.5" Whole house single or twin stage
Big Blue 20" 20" x 4.5" High-flow whole house systems
Ceramic Dome Varies by model Gravity-fed benchtop systems

When to Replace Your Filter

Beyond scheduled replacement intervals, replace your cartridge sooner if you notice:

  • Reduced water flow rate
  • Change in taste or odour of filtered water
  • Visible discolouration of the cartridge
  • It has been more than 12 months since the last replacement

Regular replacement is the single most important factor in maintaining effective filtration. An overdue cartridge can become a breeding ground for bacteria and may allow contaminants to pass through. For guidance on water quality standards, refer to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (NHMRC).
